Need to accelerate the "green revolution" in the express delivery industry and provide opportunities for cardboard packaging suppliers
2024/4/12

In recent years, China's express delivery business has steadily ranked first in the world, and packaging issues have also brought certain pressure to environmental protection. In 2020, the total amount of express packaging waste in China exceeded 10 million tons. In 2021, the annual business volume of express delivery in China exceeded 100 billion for the first time, and the waste of express packaging will continue to increase. Further promoting the greening of express packaging has become more urgent.

Faced with this situation, China's green governance of express packaging is also constantly deepening. From the digitization of express waybills to the reduction of packaging, from promoting recyclable packaging products to strengthening the infrastructure construction of recyclable express packaging, the standardization, greening, and recycling level of express packaging in China has significantly improved, and we are actively exploring ways to replace traditional packaging on a large scale. In 2020, the General Office of the State Council forwarded the "Opinions on Accelerating the Green Transformation of Express Packaging" from eight departments including the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Postal Administration, proposing to promote the "Green Revolution" of express packaging and clarifying the quantitative goals for the application of recyclable express packaging in 2022 and 2025. Not long ago, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, and the National Postal Administration jointly issued a notice, deciding to organize a pilot project for the large-scale application of recyclable express packaging from January 2022 to December 2023. The large-scale application of recyclable express packaging is indeed an urgent task. Returning to the consumption scenario, it can be found that recyclable packaging is difficult to find a presence in the massive express delivery, and only a few merchants actively use it. A survey report shows that 67.1% of consumers have not been exposed to recyclable express packaging, are not familiar with or have seen specialized recycling outlets, and some recyclable packaging is even directly discarded as household waste.

The green transformation of express packaging requires comprehensive management of the entire production, use, recycling, and disposal chain, as well as coordination and cooperation among merchants, industries, and even different cities and regions in multiple links. This is not something that can be easily achieved, it requires broad social consensus. Every effort we make towards this is not only to achieve a more responsible life, but also to shape a beautiful environment and build a beautiful China.
